This man is the butt of comedy, because he was an orator and blind and a blackmailer and a thief. Aristophanes [writes]: "Neokleides, who, though blind, outdoes in stealing those who can see".

Νεοκλείδου κλεπτίστερος: οὗτος κεκωμῴδηται, ὡς ῥήτωρ ἦν καὶ τυφλὸς καὶ συκοφάντης καὶ κλέπτης. Ἀριστοφάνης: Νεοκλείδης, ὅς ἐστι μὲν τυφλός, κλέπτων δὲ τοὺς βλέποντας ὑπερηκόντισε.
