Translation: The opposite of jealous [fqonero/s]. For the jealous man is grieved at the prosperity of the good, since jealousy [fqo/nos] is like this. But the indignant man [nemeshtiko/s] is one who is grieved at the prosperity of the evil, for such is indignation [ne/mesis]. So the indignant man is not jealous. The problem is one of definition.[1]
In envy [or: emulation] of the orators he says this; for when someone defines that the man who is called indignant is also jealous, since he himself blames certain people, we reply by defining that the indignant man is not such [sc. jealous], if indeed he rightly blames certain people, but he who blames a person undeserving [of blame]: for this man is [properly called] jealous.[2]
