Adler number: mu,975
Translated headword: do not become one who has betrayed us
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[A phenomenon in] syntax. "Alas, how disheartened I am; and I beseech you by your son and the gods, do not become one who has forsaken us!"
Note:
This entry probably abbreviates a comment which elucidated the syntax in Sophocles, Ajax 587-8, the quotation given (Tecmessa addresses Ajax: web address 1). Porphyrius in Homeric Questions explains the construction as periphrastic for μὴ προδῷς "do not betray." A scholiast on the passage paraphrases μὴ προδότης ἡμῶν γένῃ "do not become a betrayer of us."
