The vague gloss seems to show the lexicographer unfamiliar with the original meaning of the headword -- and what the function is of -dm- (from de/mw "build"). Previous authorities define it explicitly, e.g. Hesychius mu916 s.v. meso/dmai as meso/stula "middle columns".
The word occurs in e.g. Homer, Odyssey 19.37.
