Headword: Μεμβλώκατον
Adler number: mu,555
Translated headword: they two had come
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
Meaning they are staying.[1]
Also [sc. attested is the phrase] μέμβλετό μοι ["it had been of concern to me"], meaning it happened with care.[2]
Greek Original:
Μεμβλώκατον: ἀντὶ τοῦ παραμένουσι. καὶ Μέμβλετό μοι, ἀντὶ τοῦ μετ' ἐπιμελείας ἐγένετο.
Notes:
[1] This anticipates the gloss given in mu 556 for the singular counterpart to this dual perfect (a form not otherwise attested).
[2] The phrase as quoted appears in Callimachus, Hecale fr. 354 Pfeiffer. The verb is glossed as "he cared for" (ἔμελλεν ) in the D Scholia to Homer, Iliad 21.516, and "[he] was taking care" (ἐφρόντιζεν ) in Hesychius. Despite appearances, the two verbs are distinct, being respectively perfects of βλώσκω and μέλω .
