Adler number: mu,42

Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning a] pursuit, occupation, mode of life, way of life, allegation, [something] from which we are likely to spend time in connection with our affairs. But to learn better [μεταμαθεῖν ] is to make [something] cease. Strictly speaking they used to describe as 'learning better' learning something else after these things, having abandoned what was first. Aristophanes in Plutus [writes]: "and would you not learn better?"
Greek Original:
Μάθημα: ἐπιτήδευμα, ἀσχόλημα, δίαιτα, διαγωγή, πρόφασις, ἀφ' ἧς μέλλομεν περὶ τὰ πράγματα διατρίβειν. μεταμαθεῖν δέ ἐστιν τὸ παύσασθαι. κυρίως δὲ μεταμαθεῖν ἔλεγον τὸ μετὰ ταῦτα ἕτερόν τι μαθεῖν, ἀφέμενον τοῦ πρώτου. Ἀριστοφάνης Πλούτῳ: οὐδ' ἂν μεταμάθοις;
