Notes:
[1] Likewise in Hesychius mu477, the Synagoge, Photius' Lexicon (mu168 Theodoridis) and elsewhere; Latte in his edition of Hesychius associates it with 4 Maccabees 6:5 LXX. Oddly, the remainder of the entry takes up the glossing word, not the headword.
[2] Stoic doctrine from Diogenes Laertius 7.93.
[3] Someone characterised as great-spirited is explicitly supposed to be indifferent about riches in Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics 1124a, and there is no other allusion to this meaning on record.
