Notes:
Unattested in this precise form outside lexicography. The Maiotai, however, were a tribe who lived around the city of Phanagoreia (in present-day S Russia: Barrington Atlas map 87 grid L2), on the shores of the present-day Sea of Azov. The ancients called this shallow expanse of water (the) Maiotis, and often characterised it as a lake or marsh', i.e. a limne.
