Headword: *miga/des
Adler number: mu,1031
Translated headword: mixed [people]
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] a gathering [formed] out of many.
Greek Original:
*miga/des: to\ e)k pollw=n a)/qroisma.
Note:
The headword is nominative plural of the adjective miga/s. It has the same glossing in the Synagoge, Photius' Lexicon (mu443 Theodoridis), the Lexica Segueriana, Hesychius mu1321 (who adds 'aliens' after 'many'), and a scholion on Gregory of Nazianzus, Orations 21.10 (PG 35,1092d), from where, as Theodoridis notes, it is surely quoted. According to Lampe s.v., miga/des is used by Christian writers to designate people who are "mixed" in the sense of being in the secular world, non-monastic.
