Headword: Λαλητέος
Adler number: lambda,76
Translated headword: worthy of mention
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
"All Achaea [is] your monument, Euripides; surely [you are] not muted, but even worthy of mention."
Greek Original:
Λαλητέος: ἅπασ' Ἀχαιὶ̈ς μνῆμα σόν, Εὐριπίδη: οὔκουν ἄφωνος, ἀλλὰ καὶ λαλητέος.
Notes:
Greek Anthology 7.47.
The poet seems to use ἄφωνος 'having no voice' virtually as a passive, as λαλητέος , the verbal formed from λαλέω clearly is. The verb λαλέω (lambda 80) is used in later Greek not as 'chatter', 'babble', but simply as 'speak' or 'say'.
'Achaia' is, in the archaic way, Greece (cf. alpha 4680).
