Aristophanes [writes]: "I abominate Lepreos because of Melanthios." This man had leprosy, but he was also ridiculed in comedy for being soft. In addition he was a criminal, a gourmet, and a gossip. [Aristophanes writes]: "by god, even without seeing it I abominate Lepreos because of Melanthios."

Λέπρεος: Ἀριστοφάνης: βδελύττομαι τὸν Λέπρεον ἀπὸ Μελανθίου. οὗτος εἶχε λέπραν, ἐκωμῳδεῖτο δὲ καὶ εἰς μαλακίαν. ἦν δὲ καὶ κακοπράγμων καὶ ὀψοφάγος καὶ λάλος. νὴ τὸν θεόν, ὃς οὐκ ἰδὼν βδελύττομαι τὸν Λέπρεον ἀπὸ Μελανθίου.
