Headword: *le/logxen
Adler number: lambda,243
Translated headword: has obtained by lot
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] hit upon, benefited from.[1]
Also [sc. attested is] lelogxw/s ["having obtained by lot"], [meaning] having been allocated.[2]
Greek Original:
*le/logxen: e)/tuxen, a)ph/lause. kai\ *lelogxw/s, laxw/n.
Notes:
Two related perfect forms -- third person singular indicative, and masculine nominative participle -- of the verb lagxa/nw (cf. lambda 167, lambda 171, lambda 238). Each is presumably quoted from somewhere, perhaps early poetry (Bacchylides has instances of both). In Homer, the perfect varies between le/laxa with zero-grade and le/logxa with o-grade of the root.
[1] Likewise or similarly in other lexica (see the references at Photius lambda172 Theodoridis). For these glosses cf. under alpha 3674.
[2] Likewise (according to Adler) in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; poetry
