A kind of seed, which is [sc. also] called pease, because of its resemblance in colour to an egg's yolk.[1] So from a part he is indicating the female seed-seller. And [sc. the word also occurs] in Lysistrata: "by Zeus, I myself saw a long-haired man, a phylarch on a horse, putting into a bronze cap pease-pudding [sc. that he had bought] from an old woman."[2]

Λέκιθος: εἶδος ὀσπρίου, ὃ καλεῖται πισσός, διὰ τὸ ἐοικέναι τὴν χρόαν λεκίθῳ ᾠοῦ. ἀπὸ μέρους οὖν τὴν ὀσπριόπωλιν δηλοῖ. καὶ ἐν τῇ Λυσιστράτῃ: νὴ τὸν Δί' ἔγωγ' οὖν ἄνδρα κομήτην φυλαρχοῦντα εἶδον ἐφ' ἵππου εἰς τὸν χαλκοῦν ἐμβαλλόμενον πῖλον λέκιθον παρὰ γραός.
