Headword: Λαιστόν
Adler number: lambda,201
Translated headword: seized (?)
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning] something burdensome.
Greek Original:
Λαιστόν: τὸ ἀχθεινόν.
The headword adjective, here in the neuter singular, is not otherwise attested, and on the face of it looks like a verbal adjective derived from λαίω (lambda 176), either "carried, seized" or "destroyed". There are no obvious parallels to the entry in other lexica (although cf. lambda 177). One possibility is that this is a corrupt Doricism for λῃστός "seized as booty", although that requires an overly literal reading of ἀχθεινόν .
