Headword: Κατασοφισόμεθα
Adler number: kappa,775
Translated headword: we will outwit
Vetting Status: high
[Used] with an accusative. [Meaning] we will contrive, we will do harm by some device.[1]
But [the verb] κατασοφιστεύω [2] [is construed] with a genitive.
Greek Original:
Κατασοφισόμεθα: αἰτιατικῇ. τεχνασόμεθα, μηχανῇ τινι κακώσομεν. Κατασοφιστεύω δὲ γενικῇ.
[1] Same or similar glossing (minus the grammatical point) in other lexica. The headword is first person plural, future, of the verb κατασοφίζομαι (cf. kappa 774). It must be quoted from somewhere: not independently attested in this form, but perhaps a mistake for the subjunctive κατασοφισώμεθα in Exodus 1.10 LXX. (See on this Photius kappa363 Theodoridis, citing Dindorf.)
[2] For this very rare verb, see Gregory of Nazianzus, Letters 190 and Severianus, De caeco nato 59.546; also Lexicon Syntacticum (αἱ συντιθέμεναι διπλαῖ συντάξεις ) 51.
