In the present entry the quotation is unidentifiable but, together with kappa 586 and kappa 587, probably comes from Procopius; cf. History of the Wars of Justinian 2.25.23 (web address 1), with a plural verb. During the intense close combat at the Battle of Anglon (543 CE; cf. alpha 1915), the Roman military commander Narses (cf. PLRE IIIb s.v. Narses(2)) suffers a fatal wound to the head; cf. Kaldellis (127). (This Narses should not be confused with the great Roman general Narses (cf. nu 42 and PLRE IIIb s.v. Narses(1)), although both men were natives of Persian Armenia.)
