Headword: *kukh/qra
Adler number: kappa,2639
Translated headword: confusion
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] disturbance, calamity, gloominess.
Greek Original:
*kukh/qra: taraxh/, sumfora/, skuqrwpo/ths.
Notes:
= Synagoge kappa494; Photius, Lexicon kappa1176 Theodoridis. The headword is glossed as a singular noun and is found as such (in the accusative case) in Nicephorus, Refutatio 29, with a connotation appropriate to the glosses given here. However, it is possible that what we have here is a confused gloss of the plural form of ku/khqron, which appears in Aristophanes, Peace 654 (web address 1), and is glossed similarly in Hesychius kappa4461. Contrary to Hesychius, the connotation in Aristophanes is 'disturber' rather than 'disturbance' (contrast Phrynichus the Atticist 83.18).
For 'gloominess' cf. under kappa 1067.
