Headword: *kudaqhnaieu/s
Adler number: kappa,2604
Translated headword: Kydathenaian, Cydathenaean
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
It is a deme of the [sc. Athenian] tribe Pandionis. Also [sc. attested is] 'Kydathenaion', from which the demesman [is a] Kydathenaieus.
Greek Original:
*kudaqhnaieu/s: dh=mo/s e)sti fulh=s th=s *pandioni/dos. kai\ *kudaqhnai/wn, a)f' ou(= o( dhmo/ths *kudaqhnaieu/s.
Note:
Carelessly abbreviated from Harpokration s.v., commenting on the appearance of this demotikon in Hyperides fr. 109 Jensen. Whereas Harpok.'s gloss simply and correctly says 'Kydathenaion is a deme of the tribe Pandionis', the present version leaves the subject implicit, thereby giving the impression that it is glossing the headword. The second sentence does add the deme name but, at least in terms of classical usage, misspells it (with omega rather than omicron as the final vowel).
