Headword: Κομβώματα
Adler number: kappa,1988
Translated headword: bands
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] decorations.
Greek Original:
Κομβώματα: τὰ καλλωπίσματα.
Notes:
This neuter noun, here in the plural, is related to κομβόω "bind, fasten", κομβίον "buckle", and κόμβος and ἐγκόμβωμα "band for gloves" (see under kappa 1987). LSJ extrapolates from the gloss that this is an "ornamental band".
In Hesychius, the singular of this noun is glossed as "garment; tumour" (kappa3433) and the plural, even more mystifyingly, as "those having [?] for a short time in rods by leaves" (kappa3437; Latte obelizes both 'time' and 'leaves').
