Adler number: kappa,1691
Translated headword: Kiphesophon, Kephisophon
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
This man was a slave.
Greek Original:
*kifhsofw=n: dou=los h)=n ou(=tos.
Notes:
From the scholia to Aristophanes, Frogs 944, where Kephisophon (sic) is mentioned (see web address 1). The Suda garbles his name both here and again at mu 1242.
In context in Frogs, as a poetic collaborator with Euripides, K. is most unlikely to be a slave. What has happened is that the scholiast is recalling Acharnians 393-403, where a slave of Euripides opens the door of his house; a slave who is (unwarrantably) named "Kephisophon" in the manuscripts.
