Headword: *ki/nifos
Adler number: kappa,1643
Translated headword: kiniphos
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning one who/which is] variegated.
Greek Original:
*ki/nifos: o( poiki/los.
Notes:
In upper-case, this headword is cited in Ptolemy's Geography as a variant of the river-name Kinyps (well-attested, in fact, as both a river and a city in Libya, east of Lepcis Magna). But as an adjective, as apparently here, it is unattested outside lexicography; cf. Choeroboscus, De orthographia 257.5.
According to Adler, ms G of the Suda spells the word ki/nhfos, and the Ambrosian Lexicon has ki/nufos. See also kappa 1655.
