Headword: Κεραί̈ζει
Adler number: kappa,1351
Translated headword: despoils
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] sacks, destroys, plunders.
Greek Original:
Κεραί̈ζει: πορθεῖ, ἀναιρεῖ, διαρπάζει.
Notes:
Same or similar entry in other lexica (see the references at Photius kappa586 Theodoridis), and cf. also several Homeric scholia, where forms of the headword verb occur (see e.g. Iliad 5.557 [web address 1] with scholion). The lexicographers' lemma κεραίζει does not occur in Homer and must therefore come from somewhere else -- perhaps Oppian, Cynegetica 2.274 or 4.176.
cf. epsilon 416.
