This unglossed headword phrase, evidently used of a man, only occurs in Byzantine authors. (For something close, but perhaps not close enough, see Polyaenus 7.41.1: a Parthian groom kentri/sas e)peta/xune tou= i(/ppou to\n dro/mon.) The only instance which may predate Suda is Leo the Deacon p.26: "When the general [Nicephorus Phocas] saw this, goading his horse and speeding up on the way, he drove through and walled up the soldiers' rush. He persuaded them not to kill the men who cast down their arms..."
