Headword: Κάχρυς
Adler number: kappa,1156
Translated headword: parched barley
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] barleycorns.[1] Aristophanes [writes]: "[...] drinking, as if a woman grinding parched barley." That is, just like some woman grinding barleycorns.[2]
Notes:
[1] The headword is accusative plural of κάχρυς (presumably from the quotation given); cf. kappa 12, kappa 1155, kappa 2753. The equivalence twice given here between it and krithai is unexceptionable enough, though strictly speaking the headword describes barleycorns when they have dried for purposes of preservation.
