Headword: Κατώρης
Adler number: kappa,1116
Translated headword: submerging
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A proper name.
Greek Original:
Κατώρης: ὄνομα κύριον.
Note:
The headword noun occurs in fragments of Sappho (fr.183 Lobel-Page) and Alcaeus (fr.412 Lobel-Page) and is glossed as 'sinking below' (κάτω ῥέπων ). The present gloss is presumably a misunderstanding of earlier lexicographic comment (e.g. Theognostus) where another word with the same -ores suffix is glossed as a proper name: Diores.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; poetry
