Of Elis; he overcame three opponents[1] without receiving a blow. And a certain Polites from Keramos, in Karia in Thrace,[2] showed excellence in running [when switching] from the longest and most arduous distance: in the briefest of moments he adjusted [from that] to the shortest and fastest event.

Ἱππόμαχος, Ἠλεῖος, κατεμαχέσατο τρεῖς ἀνταγωνιστὰς οὐδὲ πληγὴν δεξάμενος. καὶ Πολίτης τις ἐκ Κεράμου, τῆς ἐν Θρᾴκῃ Καρίας, τὴν ἀρετὴν ἀναφαίνων τῶν ποδῶν ἀπὸ μηκίστου καὶ διαρκεστάτου: καὶ δι' ὀλιγίστου δὴ καιροῦ μεθηρμόσατο ἐπὶ τὸ βραχύτατον ὁμοῦ καὶ ὤκιστον.
