Headword: *)ianokrh/demnos
Adler number: iota,36
Translated headword: fine-veiled, with a fine veil
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] one who wears a wreath [made] out of violets.
Greek Original:
*)ianokrh/demnos: o( ste/mma e)c i)/wn forw=n.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon. Same headword (with different glossing) in Hesychius iota60. The headword itself seems to come from Alcman (fr. 177 sub-fr. 1.1, but rough breathing there).
LSJ s.v. notes that the prefix i)ano- could be a dialectal variant of e(ano/s (see epsilon 8, epsiloniota 9), although the lexicographers connect it with i)/on "violet" (iota 415). For krh/demnon, "veil" or "mantilla," see kappa 2383. See also iota 37.
