[1] This principal part of the entry is abridged from Harpokration s.v., itself prompted by Hyperides fr. 101 Jensen. For Xenophon see generally xi 47, xi 48. His sons were almost certainly born sometime after 399 BCE. Gryllos, who bore the same name as his grandfather (xi 47), served as an Athenian cavalryman and was killed in action against the Thebans at the battle of Mantineia in 362 (Xenophon, Hellenica 7.5.15-17; Pausanias 8.9.5; Diogenes Laertius 2.52-55).
