Headword: Γράψομαι
Adler number: gamma,445
Translated headword: I will indict
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] I will prosecute. Aristophanes [writes]: "I will indict him for betraying Greece to the Medes".
Greek Original:
Γράψομαι: κατηγορήσω. Ἀριστοφάνης: γράψομαι Μήδοισιν αὐτὸν προδιδόναι τὴν Ἑλλάδα.
Notes:
Aristophanes, Peace 107-8 (web address 1), with the gloss of the scholia there.
The "him" is Zeus, which instantly renders the idea of a prosecution fantastical; nevertheless the Athenian audience will have understood the term "indict" as one indicating a charge that any citizen could bring on behalf of the whole community (cf. gamma 439, gamma 440).
