Headword: Γούνδας
Adler number: gamma,408
Translated headword: goundas
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
That which among us is called goundion.
Greek Original:
Γούνδας: τὸ παρ' ἡμῖν λεγόμενον γουνδίον.
Note:
Both the headword itself and the gloss's alternative are otherwise unattested. Nevertheless, both are evidently variants on what scholia to Lucian twice (on Gallus 22 and Dialogues of the Courtesans 14.2) call gonde, and explain as a Paphlagonian word for salt pork.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; food; geography; zoology
