A proper name.[1]
It is also a city of Thrace.[2] It was named after Galepsos who was a descendant of Thasos and of Telephe.[3]
Notes:
[1] See next note.
[2] In a form usually encountered as Galepsos (for the aetiological reason which now follows). There were actually two cities "of Thrace" which bore this name: the one in question here (east of Amphipolis) and Sithonian Galepsos (or Gale) in Chalkidike.
[3] Abbreviated from Harpokration (and Photius) s.v., an entry generated by the appearance of the toponym in Antiphon fr. 23 Sauppe. Thasos (eponym of the island of that name) was a son of Poseidon; Telephe was the mother of Europa.
