A disyllabic way of saying I proceeded, written with an iota. At any rate the Ionians say [sc. trisyllabic] ἤϊα , also ἤϊσαν , for ᾔεσαν [sc. in the third person plural]. This form must be read in Thucydides: "they were at their peak [going] into it."[1] The Ionians [say] ᾔεσαν and ἤϊσαν . Aristophanes in Merchant-Ships: "when I got to where I went to the timber-market."[2]
