Headword: Ἤγειρα
Adler number: eta,54
Translated headword: I awakened
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] I stimulated.
Greek Original:
Ἤγειρα: παρώξυνα.
Notes:
Headword and gloss are aorist indicative active, first person singular.
The entry is taken from the Synagoge (Lexica Segueriana eta248.20); it also occurs in Photius, Lexicon eta20 Theodoridis.
According to Naber (cited by Theodoridis), it could have an Homeric origin, because ἤγειρα occurs on two occasions in the Iliad (5.208, 17.222) and once in the Odyssey (2.41). Indeed, scholion D to Iliad 5.208 (web address 1) reads: ἤγειρα: παρώρμησα, προέτρεψα 'I awakened: I urged on, I impelled'.
