Headword: Ἡρμόσθησαν
Adler number: eta,533
Translated headword: they were fitted together
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] they were amicably disposed.[1]
"So after he[?] had offered[2] speeches and accepted[3] pleasant things, the two of them were fitted together."[4]
Greek Original:
Ἡρμόσθησαν: φιλικῶς διετέθησαν. λόγους οὖν προσοίσαντος καὶ ἥδιστα προσεμένου, ἡρμόσθησαν ἄμφω.
Notes:
[1] The headword (presumably extracted from the quotation given) is aorist passive, third person plural, of ἁρμόζω /ἁμόττω ; cf. eta 532, eta 534 (and alpha 3976 for the gloss).
[2] Adler reports that ms A reads προσοίσαντες (nominative plural) instead of genitive singular, but the verb is still ungrammatical. Bernhardy conjectured προσείσαντες (nominative plural).
[3] Bernhardy conjectured προσέμενοι (nominative plural).
[4] Quotation unidentifiable.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; ethics
