Headword: *)hnw/xlhsa
Adler number: eta,400
Translated headword: I annoyed, I harassed, I troubled
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] I applied force [to].
Greek Original:
*)hnw/xlhsa: e)biasa/mhn.
Notes:
Same entry in ps.-Zonaras; similar one, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon.
The headword is aorist indicative active, first person singular, of a compound of o)xle/w. If that compound is a)noxle/w (a variant of a)noxli/zw; cf. alpha 2135, alpha 2577), its source is unidentifiable. However, the best-known instance of h)nw/xlhsa occurs in Demosthenes 19.206 (where the verb is e)noxle/w and the present glossing verb is also used): ou)de\n ga\r pw/pot' ou)/t' h)nw/xlhsa ou)/te mh\ bouloume/nous u(ma=s bebi/asmai "for I never harassed you nor have I ever constrained you against your inclinations").
