Headword: *(/hlato
Adler number: eta,195
Translated headword: jumped
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] leapt.[1] But h)la=to [differently accented and without aspiration] [means he/she/it] was wandering.[2]
"And he, defeated by the laws, was wandering [...]."[3]
Greek Original:
*(/hlato: e)ph/dhsen. *)hla=to de\ e)plana=to. kai\ o( me\n tw=n no/mwn h(ttw/menos h)la=to.
Notes:
[1] The primary headword is aorist of a(/llomai, third person singular. It must be quoted from somewhere, and Latte on Hesychius eta324 plausibly claims the New Testament (Acts 14.10: on the paraplegic man at Lystra, cured by Paul).
[2] Imperfect of a)la/omai, third person singular (cf. eta 193), probably extracted from the quotation which follows.
[3] Quotation (also in ps.-Zonaras) unidentifiable. (Adler suggests Aelian, presumably on the basis of the verb's appearance in fr.121 Hercher (124c Domingo-Forasté), but the whole quotation is not there.)
