Headword: Εἰδυλίσα
Adler number: epsiloniota,49
Translated headword: wise woman
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] she who understands.
Greek Original:
Εἰδυλίσα: ἡ ἐπιστήμων.
Note:
The headword, transmitted in the Suda mss as εἰδυλίσα , should very probably be (as it is in other lexica) εἰδυλίς -- i.e. a feminine form of εἰδύλος , on which see epsiloniota 21. If so, its source seems to be Callimachus, Hecale fr. 282 Pfeiffer.
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; poetry; women
