Headword: Εἴδω
Adler number: epsiloniota,41
Translated headword: I place
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
The [verb that means] I establish, [with] εἴσω the future tense.[1]
But εἴδω [also means] I know; [used] with an accusative.[2]
Greek Original:
Εἴδω: τὸ κτίζω, εἴσω ὁ μέλλων. Εἴδω δὲ τὸ γινώσκω: αἰτιατικῇ.
Notes:
Cf. post-Suda the scholia of Thomas Magister and Demetrius Triclinius on (?)Aeschylus Prometheus Bound 451, where however the accepted reading is ᾖσαν rather than εἶσαν .
[1] Perhaps this should be ἵζω , which has the aorist εἷσα : cf. epsiloniota 233, epsiloniota 234, epsiloniota 245, epsiloniota 247.
[2] Adler marks this addendum as an interpolation; this εἴδω would be either a back-formation for the present tense of εἶδον, οἶδα or else the aorist subjunctive of εἶδον .
