Headword: Εἵλετο
Adler number: epsiloniota,107
Translated headword: chose
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning he/she/it] wanted/wished/was willing.
Greek Original:
Εἵλετο: ἠθέλησεν.
Notes:
Same entry in other lexica, and cf. Hesychius epsilon859 (s.v. εἵλατο [sic]). The headword is aorist middle, third person singular, of αἱρέω . It must be quoted from somewhere -- and, commonplace though it is, Theodoridis on Photius s.v. confidently identifies the source as Gregory of Nazianzus, Orations 21.36 (PG 35.1125c).
cf. generally alphaiota 302, epsilon 801, epsilon 895, epsiloniota 130.
Keywords: Christianity; definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; religion; rhetoric
