Headword: *eu)/fros
Adler number: epsilon,3814
Translated headword: happy (?)
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] good-spirited.
Greek Original:
*eu)/fros: eu)/qumos.
Notes:
Same entry in other lexica. No form of the headword (which appears to be the nominative singular masculine form) occurs elsewhere, apart from the derivative entry in ps.-Zonaras 904. Perhaps a back-formation from eu)frosu/nh ("happiness") or from eu)/fron (the neuter nominative/accusative singular of eu)/frwn), which could easily be mistaken for a masculine accusative or neuter nominative/accusative form of the headword. Alternatively, Theodoridis (on Photius s.v.) supports ms V's eu)/foros.
For the glossing term cf. under iota 295; alpha 973 and rho 44 (comparative); iota 436 (superlative).
Keywords: definition; dialects, grammar, and etymology; ethics
