Homer [writes]: "[he] who hides one thing (ἕτερον ) in his mind and says something else (ἄλλο )". Here it seems that there is a confusion about the two. For it should have been "says another", with the one being distinguished from the other. For the [word] ἄλλος [1] is applied to more things [sc. than two].[2] But they argue plausibly that the [word] ἕτερον is applied to [things] of the same type.

Ἕτερον: Ὅμηρος: ὅς χ' ἕτερον μὲν κεύθει ἐνὶ φρεσίν, ἄλλο δὲ εἴπῃ. ἐνταῦθα δοκεῖ συγκεχύσθαι τὸ δυϊκόν. ἔδει γὰρ ἕτερον δὲ εἴπῃ, ἑτέρου πρὸς ἕτερον ἀντιδιαστελλομένου. τὸ γὰρ ἄλλος ἐπὶ πλειόνων τίθεται. πιθανεύονται δέ, ὅτι ἐπὶ τῶν ὁμοειδῶν τὸ ἕτερον.
