Headword: *)eruqrai/a
Adler number: epsilon,3098
Translated headword: Erythraia, Erythraea
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
A name of a place.
Greek Original:
*)eruqrai/a: o)/noma to/pou.
Notes:
The headword is the territory name -- as opposed to the toponym proper -- of anywhere called Erythrai/Erythrae. There were several of them, esp. the one in Ionia (epsilon 3099).
For Erythraia see Stephanus of Byzantium s.v., and note also the Sibylla Erythraia (eta 541, sigma 355, sigma 361, chi 484).
For the Erythraian Sea -- not primarily the modern Red Sea, but more the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean (OCD(4) 1259) -- see epsilon 3097.
