Headword: Ἐρετμῶσαι
Adler number: epsilon,2938
Translated headword: to set to row
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] to pull an oar.
Greek Original:
Ἐρετμῶσαι: κωπηλατῆσαι.
Notes:
Same entry, according to Adler, in the Ambrosian Lexicon. The headword is aorist active infinitive of the verb ἐρετμόω . It must be quoted from somewhere -- very probably Euripides, Medea 4, though if so the glossing does not properly convey the transitive sense employed there (ἐρετμῶσαι χέρας ; cf. LSJ s.v.). A scholiast to the line does better with κώπαις καθοπλίσαι , as does Hesychius epsilon5743 (κώπαις ἁρμόσαι ).
cf. epsilon 2933, epsilon 2937.
