Headword: Ἐζωσμένοι
Adler number: epsilon,283
Translated headword: girded, begirded, belted
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning those who are] stripped, unclothed.
Greek Original:
Ἐζωσμένοι: ἐκδεδυμένοι.
Same entry in Photius and other lexica. Both headword and gloss are perfect middle/passive participles, masculine nominative plural. The first -- evidently quoted from somewhere: probably the Septuagint, where it occurs twice -- is from the verb ζώννυμι ; the second is from ἐκδύω . These two verbs do not seem to mean the same thing, but perhaps "girded" means wearing only an athletic belt and otherwise being stripped for athletic competition (cf. LSJ s.v. A.II). Note, however, V. Schmidt's tentative emendation (reported in Theodoridis ad loc.) of ἐνδεδυμένοι for ἐκδεδυμένοι .
