Headword: Ἐπιφροσύνῃ
Adler number: epsilon,2755
Translated headword: with thoughtfulness
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] with intelligence.[1]
With thought.
Greek Original:
Ἐπιφροσύνῃ: συνέσει. φρονήσει.
Notes:
cf. Synagoge epsilon773, which offers two further glosses, and Photius, Lexicon epsilon1789, which omits the second. See also the scholia to Oppian, Halieutica 4.437; Hesychius epsilon5403 (where the nominative case is glossed); and scholia to Homer, Odyssey 5.437, where the accusative is glossed. The headword and the glosses are dative singulars here and in the Synagoge and Photius. The headword must be quoted from somewhere: probably Oppian loc.cit., though other possibilities are Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 3.659, and Philo Judaeus (eight instances).
[1] cf. generally epsilon 2756.
