Headword: Ἐπιτολῆς
Adler number: epsilon,2708
Translated headword: of a raising
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[Meaning] of a rising, of an appearance[1] of a star.
Greek Original:
Ἐπιτολῆς: ἀνατολῆς, φάνσεως ἄστρου.
Notes:
= Synagoge epsilon766; Photius, Lexicon epsilon1766.
Headword and glosses are genitive singulars. (The headword is presumably quoted from somewhere. Extant possibilities are numerous; and cf. under theta 205.) Similar, but largely in the nominative case, is Hesychius epsilon5346. Adler also cites, for comparison, the Ambrosian Lexicon (1448) and the Lexicon Rhetoricum Cantabrigiense (76.10: ἐπιτολὴ ἐπὶ ἄστρων, ἀνατολὴ ἐπὶ ἡλίου ).
[1] This phansis is a rare variant of phasis.
