Headword: Ἐπιτέλλεται
Adler number: epsilon,2665
Translated headword: commands
Vetting Status: high
[Meaning he/she/it] enjoins, gives orders.
Greek Original:
Ἐπιτέλλεται: ἐντέλλεται, παραγγέλλει.
= Synagoge epsilon754; Photius, Lexicon epsilon1750; and the derivative entry in ps.-Zonaras.
The headword is third person singular, present indicative middle, of the verb ἐπιτέλλω . Given the glossing, this must be LSJ's ἐπιτέλλω (A); cf. epsilon 2676. (B commonly describes the rising of stars etc.; cf. epsilon 2675.) It must be quoted from somewhere, but all extant instances of ἐπιτέλλεται (which begin with Hesiod, Works and Days 567) appear to stem from ἐπιτέλλω (B), with the solitary exception of a semi-restored instance in a magical papyrus (K. Preisendanz & A. Henrichs, Papyri Graecae magicae. Die griechischen Zauberpapyri vol.1 no.3 [= P. Louvre 2391], line 228: πέλαγος σιγᾶ[ν ἐπιτ]έλλεται ).
