*)epina/steios: me/toikos, ce/nos, fuga/s.
Notes:
= Synagoge epsilon708 (Lexica Segueriana 231.2); Photius, Lexicon epsilon1642 (where Theodoridis obelizes the transmitted spelling of the headword; see further below).
The headword noun is unattested outside lexicography, apart from Apollonius Rhodius, Argonautica 1.795, where it occurs in the nominative plural, and with an iota (e)pina/stioi) in place of the epsilon-iota digraph found in the lexicographers (cf. scholia ad loc.). The orthography found in Apollonius is metrically necessary in that context. The one represented in the lexicographers would have been homophonous in late Greek. The derivative entry of ps.-Zonaras 793.18 preserves (or reinvents) the spelling with iota.
