Headword: *)epilogisa/menos
Adler number: epsilon,2448
Translated headword: having reckoned in addition
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
"And having reckoned in addition upon the advantages he thought he would gain in battle, he persuades [...]."[1]
Greek Original:
*)epilogisa/menos: kai\ e)f' w(=n e)no/mize pleonekth/sein kata\ th\n ma/xhn e)pilogisa/menos, pei/qei.
Notes:
The headword is aorist participle, masculine nominative singular, of the verb e)pilogi/zomai. It is presumably extracted from the quotation given here, though note earlier instances in [Demosthenes] (44.34 & 54).
[1] Polybius fr. 147 Büttner-Wobst, probably via a lost part of the Excerpta of Constantine Porphyrogenitus. Büttner-Wobst notes (533) that Casaubon attributed this fragment to Polybius; Schweighäuser, however, maintained doubts about the attribution (ibid.). Büttner-Wobst, following Dindorf, prints (ibid.) a)f' w(=n in place of the Suda's e)f' w(=n, but this renders little difference in the translation.
