Adler number: epsilon,2120
Translated headword: since you saw fit to drink the wine you should drink the dregs too
Vetting Status: high
Translation:
[no gloss]
Greek Original:
*)epeidh\ to\n oi)=non h)ci/ous piei=n, sunekpot' e)sti/ soi kai\ th\n tru/ga.
Notes:
A loose quotation of Aristophanes, Plutus [Wealth] 1084-5 (web address 1). The original begins e)peidh\ kai\ to\n oi)=non, and the first word of the main clause was originally sunekpote/' (for sunekpote/a). The Suda's sunekpot' works well metrically (sunekpote/' e)sti/ requires first-foot resolution in the second dimeter), but makes little sense.
See also sigma 1483, where the quotation is different again (but the proverbial character of the sentiment more explicit).
